Divine Appointment

by Jane Lee

While our family was having dinner one evening in a small Chinese restaurant in town, we overheard a conversation between two men sitting at a table across from us. We soon realized that the men were Korean and decided to introduce ourselves, being Korean ourselves. We discovered that one of the men, Mr. Yoo, an independent contractor, would be moving to Trinidad in the near future to pursue a project. So we gave him our phone number to contact us when he arrived. Little did we know that it was a divine appointment set by God.

Six months later, we received a phone call from Mr. Yoo. He said that he had been in the country for some time and had forgotten about our meeting but was having trouble with his computer and ran across our number. So he decided to call. He asked Fred if he could come over and help fix his computer. But much to his confusion, the computer started working again upon Fred’s arrival. We were unable to explain the strange turn of event, but realized that we now had his phone number. So a few days later, we invited him to our home for dinner.

After acquainting ourselves with one another, we discovered that he was an agnostic and had never studied the Bible. But while discussing the need for God and biblical truths, he decided to attend church with us the following Sabbath. He then revealed that when he had arrived in Trinidad, while unpacking his suitcase, he found a Bible that his wife had placed his belongings. Since then he had been searching the Bible for some kind of understanding and decided just the week before that he would begin attending a church near his home each Sunday. But God had other plans.

By God’s providence, Mr. Yoo decided that he would attend the Adventist church with us each Sabbath. He is still coming regularly and studying the Bible diligently along with Bible studies and books on prophecy. God truly has set a divine appointment for us here in the mission field of Trinidad.

Fred and Jane Lee recently served as missionary dentists in Trinidad at the Community Hospital of Seventh-day Adventists in Port-of-Spain.  They have two sons, Joshua and Caleb.
