To Sabbath School teachers: This story is for Sabbath, October 25.

Mom told 11-year-old Tane Tau that a Pathfinder club was opening at the Seventh-day Adventist church on Easter Island.

“Would you like to go?” she asked.

Tane Tau wasn’t sure that he wanted to go.

“Let me think about it,” he said.

Tane Tau was a little scared. He wondered if the other children might tease him at the Pathfinder club. He wondered if he would fit in.

So, the boy thought for a while about whether or not to join the club.

Then he thought, “Why am I spending all this time thinking? Let me just go to the Pathfinder club and find out.”

Tane Tau instantly liked the Pathfinder club. No one teased him. He fit in very well, and he made many new friends.

There were many, many children to befriend in the Pathfinder club. When Tane Tau arrived, there were about 90 Pathfinders in the club. It seemed like many Moms had told their children about the new club on Easter Island.

As a Pathfinder, Tane Tau learned about God from the missionaries who had opened the club. He learned that God would always take care of him. He learned that God always heard his prayers.

He was happy to hear about such a loving God. He had already been praying to God, and he had been wondering if God was hearing him.

You see, just a month before becoming a Pathfinder, Tane Tau had learned that his aunt had breast cancer far, far away in mainland Chile.

He saw that the cancer greatly worried his mother. She was crying a lot.

He saw that the cancer greatly worried people at the church where Mom went on Sundays. When he went to the church with Mom, he heard people praying for his aunt.

So, Tane Tau decided to pray for his aunt, too. Every night, before going to sleep, he prayed, “God, please heal my aunt. Help her to get better. Help her to feel well.”

Even as Tane Tau prayed every night, he had wondered if God was hearing his prayers.

Then he joined the Pathfinder club and learned from the missionaries that God was indeed hearing his prayers.

He was pleased, and he kept on praying.

“God, please heal my aunt,” he prayed. “Help her to get better, and help her to feel well.”

A year passed. During that time, Tane Tau prayed for other things, and God answered those prayers.

When Tane Tau asked for help with tests at school, God helped him to pass with good grades.

When he prayed for his sick dog, God helped the dog get well.

Then in April, exactly a year and two months after he started praying for his aunt, he received the good news that she was well. The breast cancer was completely gone. She was cured!

Mother was so happy!

Tane Tau was so happy! God had answered his prayers.

Now the boy prays to God about everything in his life.

He prays for the food that he eats.

He prays before he goes to bed at night.

He prays for Mother and Father to have good health. He has no doubt that God hears his prayers.

“God answers my prayers,” he said.

Tane Tau joined a Pathfinder club that was opened by missionaries with Adventist Volunteer Service. One of this quarter’s mission projects is a new Adventist Volunteer Service center at Chile Adventist University that will teach students to become missionaries.
