A Global Mission pioneer in East Africa earns the trust of a resistant village through service, prayer, and compassion—leading to the miraculous recovery of a young boy and the birth of a growing new church plant.
The village was in an uproar. Women were crying, men were shouting. A boy named Oluk* had become seriously ill—he stopped eating, grew weaker, and eventually lost consciousness. His family asked the village healer for help, but the boy didn’t respond to treatment.
A year earlier, Global Mission pioneer Dawud had moved to this same remote village in East Africa to plant a church.
Using Christ’s method of ministry, the pioneer focused on earning the community’s trust through practical acts of kindness. He offered medical care, lent a hand with farming, and shared learning materials. Then, gently, he began telling the villagers about Jesus.
But the people in this region held tightly to traditional religious practices, and they regarded the gospel message with suspicion. Dawud quickly realized that starting a new church would require not only patience and strategy but also a strong reliance on God to soften hearts.
For the first few months, Dawud simply prayed, served, and built relationships. He worked alongside the men in the fields, offered medical assistance, and listened carefully to the concerns and needs of women and children.
In time, Dawud began to share Christ’s message in ways that fit the community’s culture. A small group of believers began meeting for Bible study. Still, many villagers remained wary, and the local elders openly rejected Dawud. They feared his teaching would divide their close-knit community.
Everything changed when Oluk became critically ill. The village healer had tried everything he could, but the boy hovered near death. Desperate, Oluk’s mother sought Dawud’s help. The pioneer gathered the small group of believers, and together they pled for the Great Physician to intervene.
The next day, to his family’s surprise, Oluk’s condition began to improve. He regained consciousness and began eating again.
News of the boy’s recovery spread quickly. Soon, others began approaching Dawud for prayer, seeking help for sick and troubled loved ones.
Even the village healer—once the most outspoken opponent of the gospel—was amazed. His opposition began to soften, and he started asking Dawud questions about the power of the Christian God.
In the months that followed, more villagers became believers. They were drawn not only by Oluk’s healing but also by Dawud’s consistent love, humble service, and unwavering faith.
The final barrier to the gospel crumbled when the elders’ noticed positive changes in the young people of their community.
By the end of the year, the church plant had grown to 20 believers, many of whom were openly sharing their faith with others. Dawud even established a children’s ministry to teach the little ones about Jesus.

Thanks to your support, Dawud’s bitterly opposed mission has grown into a thriving community of faith marked by spiritual and social transformation.
