Just One Friend

Kathy prayed for just one true friend. But in Finland, God had something much bigger in store for her. In this Children’s Mission story, we meet Kathy, a young woman from Slovakia who moved to Helsinki, Finland, for a university internship. When COVID restrictions closed the borders, she could not return home. Far from her family and surrounded by the long, dark Finnish winter, Kathy felt deeply lonely. Then she discovered OIKOS House, a small group where young adults gathered to read the Bible, sing, pray, eat, and spend time together. One night, Kathy whispered a simple prayer: “God, please give me one true friend.” This beautiful mission story reminds children and families about friendship, kindness, Christian community, and showing the love of Jesus to people who feel alone.
