When dirty water got a whole village sick, Ajoy gathered everyone in the Adventist church to pray for a week! See how this Global Mission pioneer made a difference in his village.
In this country of 180 million, only 0.5 percent, or 900 thousand are Christian. That wouldn’t seem to make a real impact but if you travel seven hours from Dhaka, cross a river, bump along muddy and rocky roads, and walk the last section, you’ll find one who believes they can.
This is Ajoy Khayang. He’s working as a Global Mission pioneer in Bangladesh.
Ajoy has worked closely with these villagers for a while now. Their traditional religious beliefs were very strong. They followed local religious practices they grew up learning.
Like other villages across Bangladesh, these challenges are common. Ajoy prayed hard to overcome this and for a way to show them a powerful caring Savior. God answered with some practical ideas and some unexpected opportunity.
“When I saw in my village that there were sometimes fatal diseases like diarrhea, malaria, and cholera, I realized then that God was answering my prayer.”
Like many rural areas, the lack of clean water is a major challenge. In this village, they get their drinking water from the same river where they wash and bathe. Judging from the color of the water, it’s no surprise that almost all the villagers became sick during a particularly bad season. With no medical services nearby or no finances to travel the long distance to find them, the villagers were desperate to be cured.
“When I saw they couldn’t find any way to get treatment, I called all of them together in the church. We decided that we would pray every evening for a week. So we did a week of prayer. At the end of the week I saw that all of the sick were now cured. As a result, they accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Now, most of the village is Christian.”
After experiencing God’s power in their lives in such a miraculous way, the villagers meet their challenges with a real and growing faith.
“Most of the villagers are poor and illiterate. They need help to teach their children and to send their children to school where they can study. And they need a proper well to get clean drinking water.”
In spite of the challenges, Ajoy is grateful to be a part of the Global Mission pioneer work.
“I want to give thanks to the brothers and sisters who support and pray for us. Because of your help we can do God’s work and preach His message to the people who do not yet know.”
Please pray for Global Mission pioneers and for the villagers here in Bangladesh.
“Thank you for supporting mission work in Bangladesh!”
