Did you know that the Seventh-day Adventist Church has a strategic plan for the next five years? The plan is called I Will Go and it continues the Church’s mission to Reach the World. Adventists around the world are invited to participate and take the good news of the gospel to the ends of the earth.
The name I Will Go started with university students in South America. In 2010, two medical students dreamed of starting a missionary movement. Without any resources, they followed God’s call and marched ahead. In God’s hands, a simple idea can become a success!
Before they knew it, the idea caught on and things started happening. Other students stepped up and said, “I will go too!” Then teachers, deans, administrators, and even church leaders worldwide got involved. In 2011, River Plate University in Argentina hosted the first I Will Go conference for young missionaries. More than 700 students from around the world came, eager to dedicate their lives to mission.
And it didn’t stop there! A second conference brought together more than 1,000 students, and then other Adventist universities started hosting their own I Will Go conferences. Just like that, I Will Go began spreading across South America!
Year after year, students attended I Will Go conferences by the hundreds and thousands. These young missionaries committed their lives to God’s call and served wherever He sent them. Since 2010, nearly 8,000 new missionaries have been dedicated and trained to take the gospel to the world.
The worldwide Adventist Church has embraced the idea of I Will Go. It has been shaped into a strategic plan for witnessing and accepting the Great Commission. In countries across the world, Adventists are asked to step up and proclaim, “I will go! I will accept God’s call and fulfill my Christian duty.”
Those two students who started it all had a dream but no resources. Yet God’s plans were bigger than they could have ever imagined. And the story doesn’t end there. There is more to come, and you can be part of it. Will you say, “I will go!”?
Today, we participate in the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s strategic plan over the next five years called I Will Go. But where did the name, “I Will Go” come from?
The name I Will Go started with university students in South America. The idea expanded and grew to be what it is today.
God asked Moses, “What is in your hand?” Humanly speaking, it was insignificant, but for God, it was not.
In 2010, two young medical students had a dream to gather an army of missionaries. Without any resources, they went ahead and saw firsthand that a simple idea, in God's hands, is a victory.
Sooner than they thought, everything was happening: students were joining, along with teachers, deans, administrators and even Church leaders worldwide. After a very short time, in 2011, Universidad Adventista del Plata hosted the First “I will go” Congress for young missionaries. Speakers came from around the world bringing with them more than 700 students who were eager to dedicate their lives to the mission.
Do you think that was it? God had already surprised them, but there was more to come.
In 2013, a second congress was held at Universidad Adventista del Plata that brought together more than 1,000 students, and, even more so, other Adventist Universities promised to host the event as well. And just like that, “I will go” began spreading all over South America!
As a result, a third edition of "I Will Go" was held in Brazil, bringing together more than 600 students.
Then again in 2017, Universidad Adventista del Plata opened its doors, to receive more than 2000 aspiring missionaries from around the world.
2 years later, in 2019, Peru called for a fifth edition and 3,600 students were called to serve and promised: I will go!
Almost 8000 young missionaries have been trained since this congress was first held. But hey! Did you think that was it?
The Adventist Church worldwide embraced this idea and today it is a project that will be implemented in different countries and will impact the lives of thousands of people. Isn't it amazing?
