Tusgal Seventh-day Adventist School in Ulaanbaatar successfully combines faith with education for its students but lacks an on-campus gym. Currently, they rent a facility for physical education, which comes with its challenges.
In downtown Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Tusgal Seventh-day Adventist School has operated for more than 15 years. It serves 257 students from grades one through twelve, emphasizing both education and faith. The school offers a variety of activities to enrich students' development.
“Besides offering the academic programs, we are considering the health of our students. So that's why we are offering physical education activities in our school for our students, such as taekwondo and volleyball.”
Most of the students attending the Tusgal Seventh-day Adventist School are not Adventists.
“As an Adventist teacher, there are many ways to show Christ's love to my students, such as listening, praying, understanding, and offering encouragement during their difficult times. It's an opportunity to reach young souls through Adventist education.”
Parents and students recognize values that aren't found in other schools.
“The biggest reason I chose the school is because this is a faith-based school, and it has a very nice family environment. And I like how the children communicate with their teachers and vice versa.”
“I like the teachers in the school because they have unique teaching techniques and they are so nice to me. Like, when I don't understand anything, they will explain everything to me.”
Even with a great program and staff, the Tusgal Seventh-day Adventist School has a critical need–a gymnasium within the school premises. They currently rent a separate facility for their physical education programs.
Our school Tusgal does not own a gym, and it causes quite a few problems because we have to come to the gym by walking about 5 to 7 minutes, and it can cause a lot of trouble with our subjects because subject after subject, we have a very strict schedule.
Despite these obstacles, Itgel still eagerly anticipates physical education time as it offers him and his peers the opportunity to exercise and play sports such as volleyball and basketball.
“I wish we had our own gym so we can have our clubs and many more basketball activities.”
