December moved to the city to support her family but struggled to keep her faith while working on the Sabbath. A new center in the city promised to help young people like her find work without compromising their beliefs.
Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, is home to more than seven million people, each carrying their own hopes and struggles. Among them is a young Adventist named December. She was filled with joy when she discovered the Seventh-day Adventist message and was baptized. However, she soon encountered challenges in her faith journey.
December lived in the countryside where there were limited job opportunities. To support herself and her family, she had to move to the city for work. There, she found that many companies demanded work on Sabbath. December found herself torn between supporting her family and honoring her faith.
âOur Adventist young people have difficulty in looking for a job. And aside from that, when we did a survey, we found out that many of our young people are still from the province coming to the city. And yet we have never seen them in the church, because once they get a job, it is difficult for them to have a Sabbath off.â
Given these challenges, itâs clear that a concrete solution is needed.
âMore and more people are coming to the city. And it is very crucial for us, as a Seventh-Day Adventist church, to have a center that will influence or that will impact positive life, that will bring hope to the city dwellers in Yangon.â
The center will help youth find jobs where they wonât have to work on Sabbath.Additionally, the center will train and prepare missionaries.
âAnd as for the city dwellers, they will come just to have an authentic encounter with our Savior, Lord Jesus Christ.â

This quarter, a portion of your 13th Sabbath Offering will help construct an urban center of influence in Yangon, Myanmar. This center will provide training for youth and offer non-believers an opportunity to experience God in a transformative way.
âIf this project is truly materialized, the Adventist youth will be closer to God, and at the same time they will be exposed to the outside world, but they will have a stronger tie to the church as a family.â
