In the heart of Singapore’s busy streets, Alan, a dedicated Seventh-day Adventist Church member, spends his days doing something extraordinary—connecting with the elderly in his community. For Alan, following Christ’s method of ministry means building relationships with those who often feel forgotten.
Alan volunteers his time to visit elderly residents, many of whom are isolated and lonely in the fast-paced city.
“I would just watch TV. I didn’t know what to do. I was bored and would try to pass the time.”
When Mrs. Chan met Alan, he invited her to a care group hosted at the Thompson Chinese Seventh-day Adventist Church. Seventh-day Adventists, in partnership with Adventist Active Centers, host a variety of social activities for the elderly. For people such as Mrs. Chan, the group means the world.
Every time the care group meets, a large bus picks people up from their homes, but Alan’s personal touch ensures that no one is left behind. He drives a van for those who can’t physically board the bus, taking time to talk and make them feel cared for.
“I’m very thankful that every time I go, everyone is so loving, always caring for me, holding my hands to walk. I’m filled with thankfulness in my heart.”
