The Devil’s Nightmare

Omaura, Papua New Guinea

For years, my friends and I had been devil worshippers. When my son was born without both his hands and a foot, I realized the devil was attacking me for leaving him!

Two days before my wife gave birth, she had a dream. In the dream, a wild boar ate our baby’s hands and a foot. When my son was born without both his hands and the foot, I realized the devil was attacking me for leaving him.

For years, my friends and I had been devil worshippers. We would go to the cemetery to dig up graves for our cult sessions. Anything I asked the devil, he would give me. I remember one time, I asked him for a large sum of money. When I got the money, it was spent very quickly. In fact, every gift that came from the devil would not last long. I became dissatisfied and began asking questions about him.

My father told me that the devil is a created being and like us had a beginning. He also said that he could not read our thoughts, only God can. So I started talking to God in my mind.

One morning, I woke up and felt the desire to kneel for prayer. I did not want to show the devil what I was doing so I stayed in bed. During the prayer, I felt embarrassed for my weakness. So I got up, took my machete, and went deep into the woods. I cleared a circle and knelt down. As I prayed, I sensed a dark presence and was afraid. But I kept pouring out my heart to God and I felt peaceful and happy. I told God I would always come there to meet Him.

Later, I asked my father for a Bible. He gave it to me, along with TheGreat Controversy by Ellen White. He told me to read the chapter called “The Snares of the Devil.” Soon I decided to give my life completely to Christ and become a pastor. It was then that the devil attacked me through my newborn.

The devil could not keep me from devoting my life to Christ, and despite the many challenges and disturbances, my family and I arrived at Omaura School of Ministry in Papua New Guinea.

“Here in Omaura, my life changed a lot in a big way. Whatever my family needs, the Lord provides. I am not afraid and uncertain as before. I know the Lord is with me.”

“I still face challenges but the challenges do not discourage or deviate me from God, they guide me towards Him. That’s the kind of positive feeling I have here in Omaura and I thank God for Adventist Education and literature.”

“One of my favorite subjects is Bible Discoveries. It deepens my understanding of the Word of God. I also love the books of Daniel and Revelation because I want to know what God is telling us about the future.”

“The fellowship here is really special. I can mingle with students from all parts of the country. I interact with active pastors in the field. This helps shape my ministry.”

“My plan for the future is to go back home to tell the young men who were digging up graves and worshiping the devil that there is a better way. There is a God who can change them as He changed me.”

Corniel Job

My name is Corniel Job. I am from Bogenville Island in PNG. I used to be a drug addict taking all these bad substances, drugs that are harmful as human beings. I was also involved in cult activities. When I was involved in cult activities, I would dig up graves to see what’s inside to try and get bones to hold these cultic activities.

Every time I do the cult activities, I offered prayers to the devil and asked for his guidance and for his power and influence over my life in everything I do.

Everytime I asked the devil to give me something, I would receive it but it would not last very long. One time I asked for money and I received it but it ran out quickly. I was not satisfied with what I receive.

When I have these experiences with the devil that led me to an unsatisfied life. I was filled with questions: Where does he come from, who created him. Is he a supernatural being by himself? All of these questions came to my mind from my unsatisfaction.

When I was having these deep thoughts and questions in my mind. I realled stories that my father told me. The devil has a beginning, he is a created being. So I started to search for his beginning. I always had this question. My father also told me that the devil does not read people’s mind. Whatever goes on silently in our thoughts he cannot read them. So I started to think that I could silently offer prayers to God without the devil knowning.

So one morning, I was still lying in my bed and I thought to myself I need to offer a prayer to God. But if I were to get up and lay down and kneel the devil would see this. I don’t want to give him this benefit of seeing my actions so I decided to stay in bed while I prayed.

So I was lying in my bed and I offered this prayer to God. I cried with tears in my eyes and asked God for strength because I really wanted to kneel down and offer this prayer but I didn’t want to give the devil this opportunity to see that I am praying. I didn’t have this strength myself so I asked God to give me the strength to kneel down and offer myself to him. I made a deep and strong commitment to God that I will not turn back to the devil. I knew Jesus did a lot for me. He died on the cross for me and I believe in the blood of Jesus. If the power and the blood of Jesus cover me I know that the devil will not come near me anymore.

So after this silent prayer in my mind, I got up and took a machety and I went far deep into the forest and I used the machette to cut the grass and make a small clearing. And I told God that this is the place I will always come to talk to you.

When I knelt down to pray deep in the forest, I felt that somebody was right there close to me. It was a fearful kind of feeling. But I was pouring out my heart to God, I felt the presence departing and I felt more secure and happy and completed my prayer and came back to the village.

When I went back to the village, I went straight to my dad and asked him for a Bible. He was surprised and went in the house anf brought me a Bible and a great controversy book and told me to read it.

As soon as I got the books, my dead told me to read the chapter snares of the devil. As soon as I read, I saw the devil walking towards me and walking through the door. I knew it was him because of my previous experience with him.

When I saw the devil standing in my doorway, I called the name of Jesus. As soon as I called the name of Jesus the devil fled. I was amazed to see that the name of Jesus is powerful enough to send the devil away.

When I saw the devil in my doorway, I called on the name of the Lord and said devil get away from me and he left and I was so happy.

After that experience that I had, I went and talked to my dad that I had the desire to study the word of God and become a minister in my church. I heard that a boy from my village studied at Omaura and went back. So I asked my dad to help me apply.

I was able to get an application for Omaura school of ministry. I was happy to fill it out and send it back. I was not concern with acceptance and school fees because I knew God could provide for me….

I prayed and I thanked the Lord when the district director gave me the application. I prayed and thanked God for the opportunity. And I knew that from that point on God would lead me and not let me turn back to my past.

When I was preparing to come to Omaura school of ministry, I was accepted and was about to come to Omaura. Within the few days before, I was attacked by the devil through my son. My son was born without both hands and one foot, he only had one foot. This discouraged me and was a very big challenge for me. I didn’t know whether I had to stay to take care of my son or come to school to fulfill my calling.

NOTES

His wife is at the school within. The child was left with the parents to take care of.

It was in the night, the mother had a dream that a wild bore came in the night and eat the baby’s two hand and the foot. She got up scared while pregnant and later the baby was born like that.

The day before we board the plane to come to Omaura my wife was pregnant about to deliver but the night before she had a dream. In her dream….

… there was a wild boar with two big tusk, very aggressive, terrible looking creature. I came in the night and ate her baby’s hands and one foot. The next day, she deliver the baby and they discovered that the baby did not have the hands and one foot. I saw that as an attack on me to keep me from coming to Omaura school of ministry.

When I saw that I made a strong commitment that instant with the Lord. I will not turn back dispite my baby. This will not discourage or turn me back to serve the devil.

When I went to board the ship to come the devil did all kinds of things to distrub me. There was someone on the ship that offloaded without a reason. I had the ticket and reservation but this man took me off and I missed the ship that day.

The next few days I prayed and asked God to intervene and I was God to keep the devil from disturbing. Then there was no obstacles or disturbances. Now I am here in Omaura School of Ministry.

Here in Omaura I started to see that my life changed a lot in a big way. The Lord has taken over my life. Whatever my family needs, tghe Lord provides. I don’t have the same fear as in the past. I don’t have all these uncertainties anymore. I know the Lord is with me.

I still face challenges here. But I don’t see these challenges as discouragements to deviate me from the Lord. I thank God I see these challenges guiding me towards the Lord. That’s the kind of positive feeling I have here in Omaura.

WHAT”S YOUR FAVORITE THING HERE IN OMAURA

One of my favorite subjects is called Bible discoveries. It enables me to have a deeper understanding of the word of God. It enables to have a deeper understanding and see how the Bible can help. I also love Daniel and revelation. I want to know what God is telling us about the future. This interests me.

WHAT”S SPECIAL TO YOU AT OMAURA…..

Something that is really special is the fellowship. I can mingle with students from all parts of the country who come to study. I also interact with people who are pastors in the field. As I interact with them it helps prepare me for ministry.

My plan for the future is after Omaura, I want to go back home and do a ministry for the young men who were digging up graves and worshiping the devil. I want to tell them that there is a better way. There is a God who can change them as He changed me.

Most of my friends are calling me to see me. I want to use this opportunity to help them see God like I saw Him.

    Snowy Night’s Prayer

In Austria, young Amelie lost her headlamp while sledding in the dark, snowy night. After praying for help, she and her family immediately found something even more important—their lost house keys, which would have left them locked out in the freezing cold. Her story shows how God answers prayers in the way we need most, not always the way we expect.

The Davis’ Indians - Part 2

After Ovid Elbert Davis died of blackwater fever in 1911 at Mt. Roraima, the Indigenous believers he had taught in British Guiana continued meeting every Sabbath at his grave, singing the hymn he taught them and pleading for another teacher. Fourteen years later, missionaries finally returned, finding more than 130 people still faithful to the commitment Davis recorded before his death. Today, his legacy lives on through the Davis Memorial Hospital in Georgetown and the thriving Adventist communities that grew from his early work.
