A lonely man in East Africa finds friendship, hope, and renewed purpose after a Global Mission pioneer connects him with a house church in an unreached community, transforming his life through compassion and Christ‑centered fellowship.
Tafum* was lonely. First, his wife died. Then his children moved to another city. Left completely alone, his health began to decline. The more difficult his life became, the more he wished he had someone to talk to.
Near Tafum’s city in East Africa, a church planter named Harche moved into the area to serve as a Global Mission pioneer. The location of his mission field was completely unreached by the Adventist Church; less than 20 percent of the population had regular contact with a Christian.
In this unreached community, the pioneer set up a house church. He met regularly with locals and used storytelling to introduce them to Christ and the Bible.
When Harche met Tafum, he immediately realized that the older man was starved of human contact. So, Harche connected him with the members of his house church.
Soon, Tafum began receiving regular visits from a member who talked with him about life and faith. To his delight, Tafum eventually made several more friends from the house church.
Today, Tafum smiles again. He says, “The person I used to be, and the one I am now, are completely different. I feel like I have value again.”
