In a land where faith is inherited and rarely questioned, Elias’* introduction to Jesus began unusually—through strangers’ voices in another language.  

From childhood, Elias dreamed of becoming a respected religious leader—someone who could guide his community in the traditions he would inherit. But God had a different plan.

As a young man, Elias began learning Portuguese to communicate with an online friend. 

One day, he heard some customers speaking Portuguese at work—they were the first Brazilians Elias had ever met in person. Excited, he introduced himself. They exchanged phone numbers and began spending time together. 

At first, Elias wanted to share his religion with his new friends. What he didn’t realize was that they were Seventh-day Adventist missionaries—and they wanted to introduce him to Jesus.  

As their friendship deepened, Elias was drawn to their peace and joy. They prayed, read the Bible, and discussed faith openly. One day, after months of studying and searching, Elias made the courageous decision to be baptized. 

In 2023, he enrolled in an Adventist university abroad. His family still doesn’t know he’s Christian, but on campus, Elias’ light shines brightly. He leads weekly interfaith gatherings where students from different backgrounds read the Bible and pray together. 

Today, as Elias prepares to return home, he does so not as the faith leader he once imagined, but as a disciple of Christ. 

In a world where faith often grows in secret, Elias’ life is a quiet miracle. His story reminds us that God’s mission advances through friendship and courage—reaching even the most unreachable corners of the earth.
